چکیده

A new magnetic field geometry for spatial encoding of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is presented. The field is given by: Bz(x, y) 5 gyy cos(qxx), and is called a PERL field because it is PERiodic in x and Linear in y. Both imaging pulse sequences and encoding field design are analyzed theoretically. A two-dimensional (2D) imaging sequence is shown to require a Fourier transform to resolve the x dimension and the solution of a Bessel function integral transform equation to resolve the y dimension. By examining solutions to Laplace’s equation that approximate the PERL field, it is shown that the PERL field can only be produced in a limited spatial region. An unusual feature is that the number of gradient switches needed during a 2D data acquisition depends on the field of view and is fundamentally determined by the finite penetration depth d of the PERL field into the sample. For very thin sections near the PERL coil, no gradient switching is required. To increase d, qx is decreased. To keep the spatial resolution in y constant however, a phase u is added: Bz(x, y) 5 gyy cos(qxx 1 u), together with additional data acquisitions (and additional gradient switches) for different values of u. In addition, an explicit example of a PERL coil with rectangular geometry is presented and its field plotted. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Int J Imaging Syst Technol, 10, 216–224, 1999

Receptive Field Encoding Model for Dynamic Natural Vision

Introduction: Encoding models are used to predict human brain activity in response to sensory stimuli. The purpose of these models is to explain how sensory information represent in the brain. Convolutional neural networks trained by images are capable of encoding magnetic resonance imaging data of humans viewing natural images. Considering the hemodynamic response function, these networks are ...

Ultrafast optical encoding of magnetic resonance

Temporal resolution in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is limited by the time required to encode the position of spins using time-varying (10–100 ms) magnetic field gradients. Here, we demonstrate spatial encoding of MRI images in a time that is three orders of magnitude shorter than what is possible by conventional gradient encoding techniques. Our method exploits the chemically induced dynam...

REGION MERGING STRATEGY FOR BRAIN MRI SEGMENTATION USING DEMPSTER-SHAFER THEORY

Detection of brain tissues using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an active and challenging research area in computational neuroscience. Brain MRI artifacts lead to an uncertainty in pixel values. Therefore, brain MRI segmentation is a complicated concern which is tackled by a novel data fusion approach. The proposed algorithm has two main steps. In the first step the brain MRI is divided to...

A Novel Multiply-Accumulator Unit Bus Encoding Architecture for Image Processing Applications

In the CMOS circuit power dissipation is a major concern for VLSI functional units. With shrinking feature size, increased frequency and power dissipation on the data bus have become the most important factor compared to other parts of the functional units. One of the most important functional units in any processor is the Multiply-Accumulator unit (MAC). The current work focuses on the develop...

A Novel Method Describing the Space Charge Limited Region in a Planar Diode

A novel and rather simple method is presented to describe the physics of space-charge region in a planar diode. The method deals with the issue in the time domain and as a consequence transient time behavior can be achieved. Potential distributions and currents obtained using this technique, supposing zero initial velocity for electrons, reveal absolute agreement with Child's results. Moreover,...
